What we do

Love Moves Forward is a nonprofit organization that supports families grieving the loss of a loved one by helping them help others.

Everyone needs to share love with others—keeping love bottled up is a recipe for pain. But when someone dies, your love doesn’t die with them. And with nowhere to go, that love keeps growing inside you, causing pain.

We organize service projects that provide an outlet for that unrequited love, where grieving families can realize, release, and multiply their love—serving others as they heal themselves and discover a path forward into the future.

How it works

The Backpack Project

Each December, we deliver care kits to people experiencing homelessness in Wake County, North Carolina through our landmark initiative, The Backpack Project.

Each backpack is dedicated to the memory of a loved one lost too soon. A letter written by that person’s family is included with each backpack as a tribute to their loved one. Writing these letters is a cathartic act that helps families release their love and share it, allowing it to live on as service to others. For the backpack’s recipients, the letters help to create a personal connection and remind them that they too are capable of being loved.

Each care kit backpack includes essential supplies such as:

  • Survival gear (emergency blankets. flashlights)

  • Warm clothing items (hats, socks, gloves)

  • Health and hygiene items (toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, hairbrushes)

  • Food (eating utensils, cans of food, power bars, bottled water)
